Stimulus has to come from us in the end

By City Shopper at 02/19/09 21:55

I am so tired of reading the news and hearing on TV about the stimulus package and what the government has to do do fix the economy. Well government does not really have the power to fix the problem in my opinion.

The problem with the economy comes from multiple directions and the domino effect is being felt all over the world. Government is part of the problem to begin with.

There are, first of all, a bunch of overgrown babies in posing as representatives in our government. They fight and whine and cry and stomp their feet to get their way. Republicans who are pissy about our new President are doing everything within their power from giving Obama a fair try.

Top ranking executives are making billion dollars in salary and bonuses and all the perks to go with it. Corporate jets and whoop de do parties and thousand dollar dinners. Then when the economy falters a little bit, and their companies are not making as much money, ooops guess who has to bail them out?  Of course the taxpayers do. Bank executives should be personally responsible for the dollars being paid out to save their jobs. They should be taking a commensurate pay cut. Cut the bonuses. Aren't bonuses supposed to represent a job WELL done? Well I think from taking a look at the current situation, bonuses should be no more to them.

Housing markets are a mess right now. On one hand, it is bad that most of the houses being purchased all over the country are in large part foreclosure sales or short sales. Well, on the other hand, it is making housing that has been sky high ( and maybe not realistically so) more affordable to many families who have been priced out of the market for their own home for years. Throwing a little bit of money at the real estate issue isn't going to cut it. All those sub rate mortgages that were doled out by mortgage companies just wanting to make a buck are coming back and slapping them in the face. Duh

Gold prices are going to the moon, although the gold stocks haven't quite made it to the atmosphere yet, so nobody really knows whether it is for real or just a schmucks game. The government, yet again, meddling meddling.

Where is it all going to end? Well it is going to have to start with the consumers (us). We are going to have to start a whole new life, living within our means. Saving money here and there in some simple ways. Instead of driving to ten different stores, we could do some more of our shopping online. You can buy anything online today. Pay careful attention to free shipping minimums. That way you are not wasting the money you are saving on gasoline driving around.

Of course, local retailers will get their share of the pie, but why drive a distance when you can buy right from your chair. We can do this together. I don't know how it will all work out. The big businesses that are in trouble because they were self servient, greedy, and grossly inefficient. Too many chiefs being paid too many tomahawks.

Obama is going to try his best, of that I believe. I believe in my heart that he wants to find a way. He sends messages out to Americans constantly, trying to encourage people to get together in their neighborhoods and work together to have a voice and work for change. I may be an idiot, but it is a philosophy that is worth dreaming about...putting a voice back in the throats of Americans.

People receiving government assistance should NOT NOT NOT be given a free ride. They should have to work for their pay just like the rest of us. There are very very few of those receiving welfare that cannot do SOMETHING to help their community. The willingness of Americans to continue to happily rely on assistance is shaping the youth of today. They are taught that it is perfectly fine to get money for nothing. Well, I guess I have said my piece. What's yours?
