House plants have long been proven as an ally in helping to purify air and maintain a good balance of humidity. It is a good rule of thumb that if you have 8 or 9 foot ceilings, you should allow for one house plant for every 10 square yards of floor space in your living areas.

Do you know which houseplants most effective in counteracting the offgassed chemicalsin the air as well as balancing the humidity i the air? Here is a list of the top ten plants to give you a bang for your buck:

    • Areca palm
    • Dwarf date palm
    • Reed palm
    • Boston fern
    • English ivy
    • Janet Craig dracaena
    • Peace lily
    • Australian sword fern
    • Rubber plant
    • Weeping fig

Although many plants do like light, all plants do not have to be placed near a window. These plants are ideal for the home environment and can even be placed in darker corners. When positioning your plants, try to have a balance between light and ventilation. Research shows that the effect of plants on air pollution indoors appears to be reduced if they are set in a drafty area.
